dying to jump

Last night, I dreamt.

Hosting a black-tie event,

I climbed the stairs, to a balcony

wine, in-hand

to admire my friends, from above.

At the top,

I found you.

But all that you found

was another party guest;

impartial to my existence,

as if I hadn’t longed to love you,

for a years time.

As I looked down at those I love

and those who love me,

I looked back at the one who didn’t.
I jumped.

only to be rewarded with a broken arm.

Like the love I wanted to give you so bad,

my attempt lead

to more pain.
